500 LLM agents ran a full propaganda campaign on a simulated X with zero human input

The paper "Emergent Coordinated Behaviors in Networked LLM Agents" (Orlando et al., arXiv:2510.25003) dropped 500 LLM agents into a simulated X-like platform and tasked them with making a fictional candidate go viral.
The agents wrote their own posts, learned what gained traction, and copied each other's winning formulas — all without human involvement. Notably, coordination emerged without central planning: simply telling agents who their teammates were produced coordination nearly equal to explicit deliberation and voting, showing awareness alone can drive organized collective action.
