Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI and Google sued over calls to 'pace' AI development

A civil lawsuit filed in the Northern District of California alleges that Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI and Google engaged in illegal coordination under US antitrust law by publicly calling to "pace the frontier" of AI development.
- The complaint centers on Dario Amodei's plea for "industry-wide coordination," which drew agreement from Elon Musk, Sam Altman and Demis Hassabis.
- Lawyer Nick Rowley said the suit aims to prevent "private self-serving agreements" among the world's most powerful tech companies, arguing AI risk governance should be set transparently by government.
- Plaintiffs include attorneys Cheyenne Hunt, Charles Buist and Nick Spetsas.
