YuE2 BF16 runs on 12GB VRAM and sounds better, plus the fix for pagefile thrashing
lazyspock · reddit · 2026-09-19
The author tested the full BF16 model of open-source music generator YuE2 on an RTX 4070 (12GB VRAM + 64GB RAM), comparing it with the ConvRot variant.
- Verdict: with the same prompt and seed, BF16 consistently sounded noticeably better—instruments, vocals, and overall quality all improved.
- Costs: slightly longer generation, plus heavy Windows pagefile writes (120 MB/s for 10-15s) after generation finished.
- Fix: launching ComfyUI with --disable-pinned-memory essentially eliminated the pagefile activity.
- Worth trying if you have a 12GB card and enough system RAM.
