Anthropic quietly sets up wet lab in the Bay Area as AI-for-biology push ramps up
机器之心 · wechat · 2026-09-19
Reuters reports Anthropic has quietly built a wet lab in the Bay Area, aiming to have Claude systems execute physical biology experiments. Life sciences lead Eric Kauderer-Abrams confirmed the facility, though a spokesperson said it isn't dedicated to drug discovery. The company published a Model Hardware Standard in August to connect AI to lab equipment and is reportedly exploring robot-run experiments. Since June it launched Claude Science, acquired Coefficient Bio ($400M in stock, per media), added Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan to its board, and serves Roche/Genentech, BMS, and Novo Nordisk. It targets 'undruggable' diseases via bi- and tri-specific antibodies, aiming to speed life sciences by an order of magnitude—all while navigating AI bio-safety controversies and Amodei's calls to slow development.
