Why OpenAI and Anthropic are suddenly buying tiny 20-30MW data centers

@MTSlive explains why OpenAI and Anthropic are suddenly acquiring small data centers:
- Both are exploring 20-30 MW deployments; Anthropic has sounded out deals of that size across the UK and Nordics, and OpenAI has been exploring the Nordics too
- The driver is inference: it was 9% of global data center workloads in 2025, projected to hit 37% of capacity by 2030 vs 13% for training, with the crossover in 2027
- Crusoe is also investing in smaller data centers and just raised $3.9B at a $30.9B post-money valuation
Quoted take (@theojaffee): "It's much easier to build 20 megawatts and get that online than two gigawatts, 100 times larger."
