Google Discover tests "Dive deeper" AI overviews instead of sending traffic to publishers

Google is testing a new "Dive deeper" feature in Discover: tapping it opens an AI-generated short topic overview — marked as AI-generated and error-prone — rather than the publisher's article.
The overview includes prominent links to related stories, community reactions, and original reporting. Robby Stein confirmed it's an experiment in topic exploration, starting with videos and iterating on multiple designs. For publishers, it signals Discover traffic may be increasingly intercepted by AI summaries before users reach the source.
