Virginia governor creates AI task force and moves to restrain data centers

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed Executive Order 22: it bans executive branch officials from signing NDAs for data center projects, requires expedited noise regulations, reviews backup-generation operations, and gives local communities more say over approvals — while establishing an AI task force to assess risks to Virginians. The state is home to the world's data center capital.
