Claude Code 2.1.277 adds AGENTS.md support when CLAUDE.md is missing

An Anthropic engineer announced that Claude Code now supports AGENTS.md as of version 2.1.277: if no CLAUDE.md exists in a folder, Claude will check for and use AGENTS.md instead. The behavior can be toggled in /config. This signals growing adoption of the cross-tool AGENTS.md convention among leading coding agents.
