MiniMax open-sources its MiniMax Code terminal coding agent under MIT, community eyes M3.1
Binary_orchid · reddit · 2026-09-19
MiniMax has open-sourced the terminal components of MiniMax Code, its coding agent built for long-horizon tasks, agent teams, and iterative verification, under an MIT license. The release covers the terminal TUI, headless CLI, and Agent Client Protocol support (desktop app excluded). Features include BYOK and custom providers, OpenAI/Anthropic-compatible APIs, Plan Mode with resumable sessions, subagents, MCP, plugins and skills. The author notes M2.7 + Hermes Agent worked surprisingly well and expects M3.1 to be the next model update worth watching, with the open harness enabling transparent repo-level comparisons.
