UCSD math dept split courses into real and fake versions with identical degree credit

A discussion on grade inflation in the UC system. Keller Jordan revealed that UCSD's math department ran a survival tactic: splitting key upper-division courses (e.g. abstract algebra) into a hard/real version and an easy/fake version that both counted for identical credit toward the same degree specializations.
