TLMR editor-in-chief Nihar Shah warns that researchers submitting AI-assisted papers they don't understand is a "serious problem." Desk rejections at his journal climbed from 6% in 2023 to 53% now. Of seven desk-rejected authors he interviewed, three failed basic questions, three stumbled on technical details, and one identified a major flaw in his own paper. Shah is building an AI system to quiz authors on their submissions.
