Drugs can program subjective experience, so the brain is computational

The author argues the human brain effectively serves as a traditional computer: it does math and computation, and we can program subjective experience with drugs — from ethanol and Adderall to antipsychotics — predicting their effects in advance. If we can change what and how the brain computes, it's hard to call consciousness non-computational; self-awareness is downstream of a very complex computer.
