Geo Whisperer Beta: type an address, get AI-compared before/after satellite imagery
henkvaness · x · 2026-09-18
OSINT journalist Henk van Ess launched Geo Whisperer Beta: type an address (or paste coordinates, a map link, or a photo with GPS) and it pulls historical satellite imagery from Maxar, Esri and other archives to build before/after comparisons.
The pipeline has three stages:
- Fetch: query which archive releases differ, dedupe, and read capture date, resolution and provider from Esri records — mostly Maxar at 30–50 cm per pixel;
- Mechanical checks: seven rule-based checks run before any model sees the photos — same photo, resolution mismatch, time gap, season, unknown date, zoom range, what stands here — each toggleable;
- AI reading: a fixed square around the map centre from both dates, each with a 3×3 grid, described cell by cell by the model.
Built because location research means slow, error-prone stitching of satellite archives; results can also be turned into a short film usable for TV or the web. Published on his Substack "Digital Digging".
