Sakana AI launches Frontier Intelligence Group to seek post-Transformer AI paradigms

Sakana AI has announced the Frontier Intelligence Group (FIG), a new research group that grew out of weekly CTM chats.
The group argues intelligence is far from "solved": the Transformer and language modeling are powerful, but better alternatives may exist. FIG points to gaps between natural and artificial intelligence — agents lack deep human insight and creativity, individual models need far more data than the brain to learn robustly, and run at far higher energy cost. Closing these gaps is its research target.
