DeepMind launches Institute platform with 4 essays on AGI governance and safety

Google DeepMind has launched the DeepMind Institute, a platform for internal researchers and the global community to publish and debate how increasingly capable AI should be built, governed, and used. Introduced by Shane Legg, James Manyika, and Demis Hassabis, it opens with four essays: reasoning transparency (Rohin Shah & Anca Dragan) on keeping the chain-of-thought monitoring window open; AGI economic policy (Julian Jacobs & Alex Imas) evaluating 11 policy options; principles for a new pragmatic utopianism (Stephen Cave); and Hassabis's dynamic framework for testing frontier AI capabilities.
