MCP Officially Adopts Skills Extension: SEP-2640 Is Final and Merged
aigclink · x · 2026-09-18
The Model Context Protocol has officially adopted the Skills extension: SEP-2640 reached Final status and was merged into the official repo on Sep 13. Servers can now ship operation manuals (skills) alongside tools, with unified distribution and validation. Skills arrive automatically on connection — no separate install — solving format fragmentation, and agents can discover available skills first and load only what's needed. Spec targets protocol revision 2026-07-28, maintained by the Skills Over MCP Working Group.
