The New York Times' flagship tech podcast Hard Fork is ending, with hosts Kevin Roose and Casey Newton launching a new show, Machine Gods, in partnership with NPR.
In a Platformer retrospective, Newton recalls pitching the show in 2021 as a crypto podcast — weeks before launch, ChatGPT shipped and pivoted the show to AI, including regular interviews with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google executives and the Bing chat moment that pushed AI safety into the mainstream.
