NeurIPS chair sees LLM-written papers, reviews and rebuttals: science becoming a Potemkin village

NeurIPS track chair Seth Lazar reports seeing papers written by LLMs — and so are reviews, rebuttals, and in some cases even Area Chair assessments — turning peer review into a "Potemkin village" where no one is accountable and neither individual understanding nor collective epistemic progress is real. Reposter joelbot3000 extends the allegory: AI is perverting the spirit of the science that created it, echoing MacIntyre, McGilchrist, and Goodhart's law — arguing we must invest early in better 'immune systems' for institutions before the tool fully wags the dog.
