Model provably can't explain the experiment — yet the simulation matches it perfectly

A researcher shares a moment of scientific despair: he wrote a physical model, then a numerical solver, only to discover the solver was wrong and wasn't actually solving the model at all. Worse, the model can be provably shown to be unable to explain the experiment.
The twist: the simulation still agrees with the experimental data very well — even without any fitting. His cry of "Send help...." captures the classic uncanny situation of getting the right answer for entirely wrong reasons.
