Google Open-Sources Agent Substrate on GKE: 10x Density, 1,000+ Dormant Agents per Host
blaizedsouza · x · 2026-09-18
Google announced Agent Substrate, an open-source agent execution runtime on GKE designed to run millions of sandboxes with 10x higher density than standard container runtimes. Key specs: sub-500ms resume, 500+ suspend/resume ops per second, 1,000+ dormant agent environments per host, and zero-trust isolation via microVMs/gVisor. Nous Research's Hermes Agent (#1 on OpenRouter) is already building on it.
