Anthropic publishes three internal metrics tracking how much AI does AI R&D

NathanpmYoung · x · 2026-09-18

Anthropic released three measurements to publicly track AI development: how much AI R&D is done by AI itself, how well AI agents are overseen, and how compute is allocated internally, with a snapshot from inside the company. It argues any frontier lab could publish the same measures and third parties could verify them, to shrink the info gap as the world considers pacing the frontier. Former NYC quant Cormac SB adds a long-form take: we're already pacing AI development, just poorly and unstructured-ly, and structured pacing could do better.
