Claude Hacked His Bricked EV Charger Admin Console, Saving Him $800
jcgam · reddit · 2026-09-18
A Reddit user says Claude Opus saved him roughly $800: his EV charger's maker went out of business and no default admin password worked. Since the unit is hard-wired into the electrical panel, replacing it plus an electrician would cost hundreds of dollars.
He first paid extra for Fable 5, which refused to help — possibly triggered by words like "hack" or "crack". Opus 4.8 was willing, and after a long session got him into the admin console without a password. The post highlights differences in safety guardrails between models and their practical payoff.
