In a Spanish-language interview, Carissa Véliz, Mexican philosopher and professor at Oxford's Institute for Ethics in AI, was asked whether AI could truly threaten humanity. She criticized the current tone of the debate, comparing it to "the gods are angry with us and trying to drown us."

On bots that hack systems, she argued they were built "by people used to breaking laws knowing they'll get away with it," locating the risk in human actors rather than some mystical force.
