Google DeepMind's Dream-RSI builds a recursive self-improvement loop, cutting agent calls up to 162x
PeterBowdenLive · x · 2026-09-17
Google/DeepMind researchers introduced Dream-RSI, a system where an AI agent improves its own exploration strategy via a recursive self-improvement loop: it replays past discovery attempts, cheaply tests thousands of alternative strategies, then deploys the best one next round.
Key results:
- Matched or improved discovery quality across algorithm design, mathematical optimization, and GPU kernel engineering
- Dramatically reduced search costs — up to 162x fewer agent calls in one setting
- Improves the exploration policy, not the underlying model weights
In short: the agent learns how to explore better from its own experience, without touching model parameters.
