banteg blasts EA: 'effective' means epistemic low agency, longtermism makes living humans a rounding error
banteg · x · 2026-09-17
Developer banteg reposted a critique of Effective Altruism, arguing that "effective" in EA means epistemic low agency — not trusting your own morals, values, and intuition, but replacing them with impartial optimization. "Altruism" just means welfare maximization, he says, while longtermism pushes the target so far into the future that living humans become a rounding error.
