Gowers responds to letter on maths and AI signed by 25 Fields medallists

Mathematician Timothy Gowers published a blog post responding to a letter on maths and AI signed by 25 Fields medallists. Like the Leiden Declaration, he didn't sign it, but agrees with much of it and welcomes its existence.
Quoting the post, tak3sh8 argues frontier labs may soon cut spending on strong maths-AI systems since it isn't marketing-worthy, and remains unconvinced that an AI solving Navier-Stokes transfers well to other intellectual tasks.
