Microsoft's Suleyman warns AI firms are 'seeding a new silicon species'

Microsoft AI head Mustafa Suleyman told the BBC that if companies keep building AIs that set their own objectives, earn money, and own assets, they are "essentially seeding a new silicon species which will no doubt compete with us for resources."
He criticized rival Anthropic's approach of anthropomorphizing AI as "misguided," arguing it wrongly makes Claude appear to have its own desires, values, and sense of self. Suleyman said public concern is legitimate but that "very practical" guardrails and controls can be added to model development. The comments follow his essay earlier this week and continue a string of stark industry warnings.
