omitClaudeMd cuts Claude Code subagent context by ~88% across 10 agents
This_Cell_1829 · reddit · 2026-09-17
A user tested 10 identical Claude Code subagents and found each was loading the project CLAUDE.md. Adding omitClaudeMd: true (available in Claude Code 2.1.271+) for agents that don't need project instructions:
- Default: 226,340 input/context tokens
- With omitClaudeMd: 26,480
- 88% less context across the same 10 subagents
This doesn't improve your Claude usage limit by 88%, but stops tokens burning on instructions those agents don't need. Author invites others to share numbers with different CLAUDE.md sizes.
