University of Memphis study finds no major air quality deterioration around xAI's Colossus 1

University of Memphis researchers compared two full 12-month periods in nearby Boxtown and Riverview before and after Colossus 1 began operations.
Key findings:
- No significant deterioration across six pollutants plus surface temperature
- Ozone, SO₂ and CO fell significantly
- PM2.5, NO₂ and formaldehyde remained statistically unchanged
- Post-operation pollutant levels generally decreased across all locations
The team used satellite data calibrated with readings from local monitoring stations. The results contrast with earlier community concerns about data center pollution.
