Nelson MCP: open-source extension lets AI agents work inside LibreOffice with 145 tools
quazarzero · reddit · 2026-09-17
A developer released Nelson MCP (MPL 2.0), a free open-source LibreOffice extension that runs an MCP server at localhost:8766. Any MCP client — Claude Code, Gemini CLI, OpenCode — can read and edit the document you have open, no export/re-import, with changes visible live.
Capabilities: Writer gets 97 tools (section reading, search including tables, Markdown/HTML writing, styles, tables, headers/footers with page numbers, TOC, comments, tracked changes); Calc gets 50 (range reads, calcquery for filter/sort/aggregate without loading the whole sheet, formulas like SORT(FILTER(...)), charts, conditional formatting). Draw and Impress are supported too — 145 tools total, with the tool list adapting to your document.
