TMLR's unusual Zoom tests: 7 of 7 invited authors fail to explain their own papers

Delip Rao reports that TMLR editors took the unusual step of inviting authors of a subset of papers to a Zoom call to answer questions before desk rejection. Of 10 authors invited, only 7 accepted — and all 7 failed to answer any questions about their own work. Rao's takeaway: people are publishing papers they cannot explain or understand.
