WIRED Reporter Vibe-Coded a Story Idea Generator From an Open-Source Fruit Fly Brain

WIRED's Will Knight built PitchFly, a story-idea generator powered by the open-source connectome of a male fruit fly — a map of 166,000 neurons and 125 million synapses developed by Google and academic researchers.

He scraped hundreds of top WIRED headlines from the past year, had Codex convert them into phrases and neural representations, and fed them into the connectome simulation. The output includes gems like "Everyone Wants Cooking. Nobody Has Solved Donald Trump."

The piece shows how easily the open-sourced biological connectome can be turned into a playable, biologically grounded mini-AI.
