Children's Hospital of Philadelphia builds kids' heart models in seconds with open-source MONAI

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has built a cardiac modeling service on MONAI, the open-source medical imaging framework co-founded by NVIDIA: it takes a child's existing CT, MRI and 3D ultrasound scans and produces anatomically precise heart models in seconds — work that once took a skilled researcher four hours.
Context: about 1% of live births involve congenital heart defects, each anatomically unique, so off-the-shelf devices rarely fit. Modeling lets clinicians match devices before cath lab or surgery.
Scale: more than 20 U.S. children's hospitals now run cardiac modeling programs; Boston Children's supports over half of its cardiac surgeries (500 cases/year), CHOP expects 200 modeled cases this year and plans to extend the tools to other specialties.
