Human organoids fill 91.9% of cortex in engineered mice, Nature paper shows

Sergiu Pasca's team published a Nature paper engineering "apallial" mice lacking a cortex, then transplanting human neural-cell-derived organoids postnatally. Three months later, the cortex was 91.9% human-derived neural cells by volume in measured animals. The team stresses these animals show no signs of human-like experience. The model promises major value for neurological disease modeling and drug discovery, and raises ethical questions — external ethicists, including Nita Farahany, were engaged throughout.
