Economist Halts QJE Submissions, Says AI Is Making the Publishing Rat Race Worse

Economist Paul Novosad announced he is pausing submissions to the Quarterly Journal of Economics and called on leading economists to do the same. His argument: the academic publishing rat race has spiraled out of control, and AI is accelerating the problem by flooding journals with low-cost, low-effort papers.
