Cambridge's Stephen Cave proposes principles for a new post-AGI utopianism

In a DeepMind Institute essay, Stephen Cave argues that mainstream AGI discourse is dominated by apocalypse narratives and that managing risk isn't enough — we need positive visions of transformation. He traces why utopian thinking fell out of favor after 20th-century horrors, and proposes principles for a new utopianism: medium-termism, humility, and pluralism, plus a modest proposal he calls UBS.
