Google DeepMind launched the DeepMind Institute, a platform for researchers across the lab and the wider community to debate how increasingly capable AI should be built, governed and used, introduced by Shane Legg, James Manyika and Demis Hassabis. Four launch essays: reasoning transparency (Rohin Shah, Anca Dragan) argues chain-of-thought monitoring must stay open to catch scheming; economic policy for AGI (Julian Jacobs, Alex Imas) evaluates eleven policies for managing AI-driven economic disruption; principles for a new utopianism (Stephen Cave) proposes pragmatic utopianism for an AGI society; and a dynamic frontier AI testing framework by Demis Hassabis.
