DeepMind co-founder Shane Legg announces the DeepMind Institute, a researcher-led body to spark interdisciplinary debate on AGI and bring in wider views, with a first batch of essays. Legg argues we are approaching AGI — systems with all cognitive capabilities of the human brain — and that current gaps in consistency and creativity will close soon. Allan Dafoe adds that much of what the world needs to know about governing the AGI transition sits inside frontier labs, and this institute is how DeepMind will share more of it.
