Same function runs 14x slower in production: 500ms locally vs 7000ms in cloud
DanielLockyer · x · 2026-09-16
Developer DanielLockyer benchmarked a heavy function at 500ms locally and 7000ms in production — a 14x slowdown. He previously measured production machines running 4x slower than local dev, meaning a 200ms local workload could become an unacceptable 800ms in production. A reminder not to underestimate how slow cloud production hardware can be.
