NeurIPS reference checker flags LLM-corrupted bib entries; desk rejection feared
suryanreddy · reddit · 2026-09-16
A NeurIPS E&D track author was flagged by the automated reference checker for two corrupted references — one with extra letters in an author's first name, one with two incorrect first names — after letting an LLM reformat their bib file. Per the email, minor mismatches are tolerated but at most one major issue is allowed. The author fears a desk reject. The case shows NeurIPS now systematically runs automated reference verification and how LLM-assisted writing can silently corrupt citations.
