blender-mcp renames to mcp-for-blender to avoid confusion with official Blender MCP
sidahuj · x · 2026-09-16
The popular open-source project blender-mcp (28.8k GitHub stars) has been renamed to mcp-for-blender, with the repo moving accordingly.
- Why: to avoid confusion with the official Blender Labs MCP and clarify it's a community-maintained third-party plugin, not made by Blender.
- Nothing breaks: the PyPI package blender-mcp is now a compatibility wrapper — uvx blender-mcp still works, the import path remains blendermcp, and the Blender addon entry is unchanged.
- New installs should use uvx mcp-for-blender; existing MCP client configs can be updated whenever convenient.
