TypeSafe AI shipped Jev on September 15, 2026, introducing a new class it calls System One Models. The author argues the industry spent four years chasing the wrong missing piece: we got chatty models, coding agents, and copilots, but not a machine that answers many narrow questions over messy state, returns code-thresholdable probabilities, and does it in tens to hundreds of milliseconds without burning a novel's worth of output tokens. Jev is a typed decision engine — named after economist Jevons — and the author predicts cheap judgment will explode judgment demand, just as cheaper coal meant more coal.
