Security researcher Matthew Green argues Apple is vague about how its photo provenance system (ARI) works: perhaps only Apple can trace a hacked camera, which is of limited help to the public and introduces its own risks. He doubts the "aliens photo is real because it's signed" use case, expecting convincing fakes, but sees value in other applications.
