MiniMax + Blender Pipeline Auto-Generates Walking 3D Creatures Fast, But Not Production-Ready
KarimHann · reddit · 2026-09-16
Reddit user KarimHann shared an experimental hybrid pipeline testing how far automated tools can take a creature from scratch.
The workflow has three stages:
- Concept & motion: generated the creature design and animation reference with MiniMax inside ComfyUI
- 3D mesh & rig: used AI tools (including OpenAI/Astra) to draft a low-poly model and auto-generate the rig
- Retargeting: brought everything into Blender to transfer the MiniMax-generated walk cycle onto the rigged mesh
Findings:
- What worked: major speed gains for rapid iteration, rough blockouts, and background assets — great for previs, VR filler, and game prototyping
- The catch: not hero-shot ready; immediate skinning issues and mesh deformations mean manual weight painting and topology cleanup are still required for production quality
