In a Times Tech Podcast interview, Bill Gates argued: "It's not the role of the industry to self-regulate or understand the whole-of-society impact that comes out of AI. The depth of understanding of AI and the right concern about some of these bad things is too low in every entity, including the government, other than the industry itself."
Replies were sharp: chrisgrayson quipped that a good rule of thumb is to take the opposite position from Gates, suggesting his take may push many to reconsider the stance — part of the ongoing fight over who should steer AI governance.
