Bill Gates: no one outside the industry understands AI well enough to regulate it

In a new interview on The Times Tech Podcast, Bill Gates took a contrarian stance on AI oversight:
- "It's not the role of the industry to self-regulate or understand the whole-of-society impact that comes out of AI."
- "The depth of understanding of AI and the right concern about some of these bad things is too low in every entity, including the government, other than the industry itself."
He frames the industry as the only entity that currently understands AI, while arguing the whole-of-society impact shouldn't be the industry's burden alone. Full video is on the Times Radio YouTube channel.
