The New York Times published a surprisingly even-handed visual overview of how AI risk debates have split Silicon Valley and Washington into entrenched factions:
- Slow down: Dario Amodei; Elon Musk listed as shifted, Sam Altman as shifted
- Middle: Demis Hassabis, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg, Alexandr Wang
- Speed up: Jensen Huang, David Sacks, Andreessen and Horowitz
- Politicians pro-regulation: Bernie Sanders, Josh Hawley, and others
- Politicians anti-regulation: Donald Trump, Mike Johnson
The piece notes calls to slow AI development moved to the center of the national agenda last week, splitting executives against Trump and uniting populists on left and right who agree on little else but that AI should be reined in.
