An NVIDIA engineer recalls joining in 2018 with a cover letter about playing GTA III on a Geforce 4 and wanting to build cool ML/AI stuff on GPUs — he still has the signed card. The original post: nobody who joined NVIDIA 5+ years ago did it for the money; hiring managers repeatedly said "money doesn't grow on trees at NVIDIA," and people came out of love for the technology.
