Sakana AI CEO tells WTO: AI sovereignty is about choice, not ownership

Sakana AI's Ito delivered a keynote at the WTO's World Trade and Tech Day on Sept 14, arguing that "AI sovereignty is about options, not ownership." He drew a parallel between trade and AI: combining strengths across countries achieves more than hoarding capability domestically. He also discussed AI's role in trade, including infrastructure and logistics efficiency. During the Geneva trip he met WTO Deputy Director-General Johah Hill and WIPO Director-General Daren Tang to discuss AI's role in international organizations.
