Bryan Klow shares a farewell for researcher Ruth Chew, who is heading to the University of Washington for a CS PhD. Chew's master's thesis with Klow led to BILBO, a bilevel Bayesian optimization algorithm published at ICML 2025 that optimizes upper- and lower-level problems simultaneously with sublinear regret guarantees. She also led work on a benchmark democratizing black-box optimization research for expensive LLM tasks.
